    AT 10.45 A.M., MR..LAMBERT OF THE LORD CHAMBERLAIN'S OFFICE EMERGED FROM THE BUILDING TO POST A NOTICE AT THE GATE, PROCLAIMING THE BIRTH OF A SON TO THE PRINCESS. THE NOTICE SAID THAT BOTH THE PRINCESS AND THE BABY WERE WELL. SIR JOHN PEEL, THE ROYAL GYNAECOLOGIST, AND THREE OTHER DOCTORS ATTENDED THE BIRTH.

    THE ROYAL BABY BOY - WHO WAS BORN IN THE WHITE-WALLED ROOM OVERLOOKING THE MALL, WHERE PRINCESS MARGARET ONCE LIVED AND WHERE PRINCESS ANNE WAS BORN - WILL BE KNOWN AS VISCOUNT LINDLEY.

    SOON AFTER THE BIRTH, QUEEN ELIZABETH ARRIVE AT CLARENCE HOUSE TO TENDER CONGRATULATIONS TO HER SISTER.
