From Japan comes a story of a man and his dog, and how by losing one beloved canine his grief produced an abundance of four-legged friends.

SYNOPSIS: Doctor Shigeo Inatomi, an obstetrics and gynaecological expert, lost his dog. That was six years ago during disastrous floods that hit the south-west Kyushu town of Itsukamachi. He advertised for anyone who had seen his pet. But his dog was never seen again.

However, so many people who'd seen the advertisement brought sick and stray dogs to the doctor that he was soon inundated. It wasn't long before his neighbours started to react. The noise, they said, was too loud. Something had to be done. The doctor now had some three hundred dogs on his property. He made his decision -- move.

Rather than loss his pets, Doctor Inatomi built a new house in the mountains at a cost of twenty million yen (two hundred thousand dollars, U.S.). It's in the mountains, far away from anyone who might be disturbed by the dogs. It took some time to transport the dogs because only four or five could fit in the doctor's car at any one time. Dr. Inatomi is adamant that he won't be separated from his dogs. He doesn't want any more but intends to keep those he has until they die.
