    The United States Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger, spent his final full day in India, Tuesday (29 October), talking with Government ministers and visiting the 16th century Moghul Red Fort in New Delhi.

    The three ministers he had talks with included Mr. Jagjivan Ram. the Indian Minister of Agriculture. Their discussion explored India's hope for eventual self-sufficiency in food production.

    Dr. Kissinger also told Mr. Ram of his hopes for the World Food Conference which is to be held in Rome next month. The Secretary of State will to attending the conference, and on Tuesday he disappointed hundreds of schoolchildren when he cancelled a trip to a model village, in order to work on a major speech he is to give at the Conference.

    The other ministers he met were the Finance Minister, Mr. Childambaram Subramaniam, and the Defence Minister, Mr. Swaran Singh.

    His meeting with Mr. Ram had been expected to deal with the possibility of the United States sending India shipments of grain. But after the meeting, Mr. Ram would not say whether any agreement had been reached on either quantities or terms.

    Later in the day, Dr. Kissinger visited the Red Fort, which was built by the Emperor Shah Jehan. He spent an hour touring the building. Meanwhile, his wife Nancy, was visiting the famous Taj Mahal, which was also built by the Emperor. Shah Jehan erected the beautiful marble monument to his wife Mumtaz.
