Mr. Robert K. A. Gardiner, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. has started talks in Tokyo to promote economic co-operation between Japan and Africa.
Mr. Gardiner arrived in Tokyo on Monday (20 May) for an eleven day visit at the invitation of the Foreign Ministry.
He held his first official round of talks on Wednesday (22nd May) with the Minister for Science and Technology, Mr. Moriyama. During his visit he'll also have discussions with leading Japanese businessmen and other Government Ministers.
Mr. Gardiner's mission is to increase the exchange of economic and technical knowledge between Japan and African countries.
