    MR. LEVI ESHKOL, ISRAEL'S PRIME MINISTER, TODAY (THURSDAY) CALLED ON THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, MR. HAROLD WILSON. MR ESHKOL IS ON A SIX-DAY PRIVATE VISIT TO BRITAIN. THE TWO PRIME MINISTERS MET OVER LUNCHEON AT MR. WILSON'S OFFICIAL RESIDENCE, NO. 10 DOWNING STREET IN LONDON.

    DURING THE LUNCHEON, MR. ESHKOL HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET SEVERAL BRITISH CABINET MINISTERS INCLUDING THE FOREIGN SECRETARY, MR. MICHAEL STEWART WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE PRIME MINISTER'S RESIDENCE. MR. ESHKOL SHOOK HANDS WITH THE MINISTER FOR ECONOMIC AFFAIRS, MR. GEORGE BROWN, AND THE MINISTER FOR TECHNOLOGY, MR. FRANK COUSINS.

    THE ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER ARRIVED IN LONDON LAST NIGHT. HE SAID HE HOPED TO HAVE DISCUSSIONS DURING HIS STAY IN BRITAIN ON "THE BROAD RANGE OF ANGLO-ISRAEL RELATIONS, AND ON THE MIDDLE EAST IN GENERAL."
    IN A BRIEF STATEMENT SOON AFTER HIS ARRIVAL, MR. ESHKOL SAID THAT DESPITE THE EVER-PRESENT DANGER OF AGGRESSION IN THE ISRAEL AREA, HE DID NOT DESPAIR OF PEACE. BUT ISRAEL, HE ADDED, FELT SHE MUST MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE DETERRENT CAPACITY AS THE BEST MEANS OF PREVENTING WAR.

    ANSWERING QUESTIONS FROM NEWSMEN, MR. ESHKOL, SAID THAT THE PRESENT NEGOTIATIONS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN ISRAEL AND WEST GERMANY WERE MOVING TOWARDS COMPLETION. HE ESTIMATED AMBASSADORS MIGHT BE EXCHANGED IN SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS.
