  • Description

This morning, Crown Prince Constantine, the Royal Princesses Sophia and Irene, ex-King Michael of Rumania and his wife Ann of Bourbon, drove to Pera Hora north-west of Athens to watch the re-enactment of the famous Battle of the Pass of Thermopylae, where some 2500 years ago 300 Spartans affronted tens of thousands of Persians. Thermopylae remained historical through the ages, for the barbarians were stopped and later annihilated (at the battle of Platea), thus saving what was then known as civilized Europe. In an effort to help the company which is filming the battle, the Greek Government has assigned a force of 3000 men of the 27th Infantry Regiment to play Leonidas of Sparta and Xerxes' soldiers.
