In Ghana the fifth congress of the Afro-Asian Housing Organisation opened in the capital of Accra on Monday (7 November). More than 100 delegates from 13 developing countries attended the conference.
SYNOPSIS: According to the Ghana News Agency the primary aim of the congress was to promote cooperation between Third World countries in housing, reconstruction, planning and related matters. A number of other international organisations attended the conference as observers, to give advice and consider ways of contributing economic assistance.
They included the World Health Organisation, the United Nations Development Programme and United States Agency for International Development.
Ghana's chief of military staff, Major-general Fred Akuffo delivered the opening speech of the congress to the delegates, in the absence of head of state Ignatius Acheampong.
