    MR. JOSHUA NKOMO, LEADER OF THE PEOPLE'S CARETAKER COUNCIL IN SOUTHERN RHODESIA HAS BEEN RESTRICTED TO A REMOTE AREA IN THE NUANETSI AREA OF THE COUNTRY. HE AND THREE OTHER SENIOR MEMBERS OF THE PARTY ARE ACCUSED OF ORGANISING EVENTS WHICH THE GOVERNMENT SAYS HAVE LED TO VIOLENCE.

    MR. DUPONT, THE MINISTER OF LAW AND ORDER IN SOUTHERN RHODESIA ANNOUNCED MR. NKOMO'S RESTRICTION YESTERDAY (THURSDAY). IN A STATEMENT THE MINISTER SAID THAT DESPITE REPEATEDLY ISSUED WARNINGS TO THOSE WHO SOUGHT TO CREATE UNREST IN THE COUNTRY THERE HAD BEEN A "BUILD UP OF TENSION" IN THE LARGER AFRICAN TOWNSHIPS. MR. DUPONT SAID THAT ON FEBRUARY 28 HE WARNED MR. NKOMO TO REFRAIN FROM DRAGGING THE COUNTRY "FROM CRISIS TO CRISIS". HOWEVER, HE SAID, MR. NKOMO HAD NOT HEEDED HIS WARNINGS.

    (MR. NKOMO WAS VERY CRITICAL OF MR. IAN SMITH'S NEW CABINET ANNOUNCED ON TUESDAY. HE DESCRIBED IT AS A "SUICIDE SQUAD" AND CALLED ON BRITAIN TO SEND TROOPS TO MAINTAIN ORDER. MR. NKOMO SAID OF MR. SMITH'S CABINET "THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE WELFARE OF ALL THE PEOPLE BUT ONLY IN THEIR OWN AND WILL EVENTUALLY DESTROY THEMSELVES.").
