  • Description

To two brothers living in the little town of Sand, in Norway, money is not everything in this world.

Ordin and Christen Tysseland have a little house on the mountain just outside Sand, where they were born, in 1888, and lived ever since, happily together. They neither of them have ever left their home town. In fact Ordin has never been outside the house at all; Christen has been as far as the town, but no farther.

A few days a go the brothers received a cheque for about one million kroner from a brother in the United States of America. But the brothers know nothing of the outside world and have no use for so much money. So they promptly sent the cheque back to the United States.

Their daily round is a simple one. Every morning they set to and make butter, and then Christen sets out to sell it in Sand.

The brothers, who have never married, received a letter from their kinsfolk in America, after they had send back the cheque, pleading with them to keep the money -- but their answer was the same, No thanks.
