SYNOPSIS: The final of the African Soccer Club Championships was held at the Mehalla Stadium in Egypt, on Friday. The Congolese team, Renaissance Aiglon, in dark colour, played against Mehalla of Egypt on their home ground. The two teams had their first leg match at Brazzaville at the beginning of this month. Renaissance won the match - four goals to two.

Friday's match started thirty minutes earlier than usual for League matches, to allow enough time for achieving penalties in case of a draw. Congo's right half, Alfonse Yanga, netted the first goal in the thirty-fifth minute and Congo led the score one nil half time.

Both teams played in four-two-four formation in the match watched by a crowd of twenty-five-thousand. The Egyptians had several chances to score, but they failed to do it.

Renaissance went ahead when Mehalla goal-keeper Abdel Sattar made his second mistake and right-half Alfonse Yanga raced in to score Congo's second goal.

In the second-half, amidst noisy cheering from the crowd, the Mehalla tried a flurry of raids on Congo's goal. In the eighty-forth minute, inside-left Abdel Dayem scored a consolation goal for Mehalla three minutes from full time.

The Egyptians had an impressive start, but their confidence suffered when they lost several scoring chances in the first half-hour. The Congolese, however, increased their confidence as it became clear they were going to cinch the trophy.
