  • Description

Ghana Films and the Ita-Victoria Film Company of Italy have combined in a project to produce a major feature film costing one and a half million US dollars (GBP 570,000 sterling) to show Europeans what Africa is like.

The film is called "Contact" and the lead role is played by Calvin Lockhart, who has appeared in several Holywood feature films.

It is being shot on location in the western region of Ghana.

Director Bontempi says that the concept of the film is to show Europeans that Tarzan's Africa does not exist and that Africans, like anybody else can be either good or bad.

The film is based on the story of an African industrialist tendering for a 50 million US dollar contract. He is opposed by a European industrialist. The story brings out many aspects of African life and economic activity amid love, hatred and violence.

SYNOPSIS: A major feature film is being shot on location in the Western Region of Ghana. It is a joint production titled "Contact" - Ghana Films are co-operating with the Ita Victoria Film Company of Italy and the picture will cost about one and a half million US dollars.

Butri fishing village is one of the locations.

Italian film Director Bontempi says the purpose of the film is to show Europeans something of the nature of Africa, and to let them see that Tarzan's Africa does not exist.

The star is Calvin Lockhart who has appeared in several Holywood feature films and on British television shows. He plays Mr. Ruma, an African industrialist tendering for a fifty million dollar contract. The only other bidder is a European industrialist.

The film follows closely the struggle between them - and the hatred, violence and love that is involved. Many of the scenes are set against dockland and fishing backgrounds because fishing is one of Mr. Ruma's business interests.

Shooting is going according to schedule, says the production manager. Many film-goers in Africa and Europe will be interested to see the finished production.
