    The Egyptian President, Mr Anwar Sadat, said on Thursday that he believes a Middle East settlement is still possible and that he hopes for an early resumption of negotiations with Israel. Mr Sadat was speaking at a press conference during a two-hour stop-over at London's Heathrow Airport during which he had talks with the British Prime Minister Mr James Callaghan. After the meeting, Mr Callaghan called for great flexibility by Israel, but also said that unless Israel felt secure, there could be no peace.

    SYNOPSIS: Mr Callaghan and the British Foreign Secretary Dr David Owen met the Egyptian leader at Heathrow. Mr Sadat, who has just concluded talks in Washington with President Jimmy Carter later flew on to Hamburg to meet the West German Chancellor Herr Helmut Schmidt. At the news conference Mr Callaghan spoke of the need for Israel to feel secure under any settlement.
