    THE EVENT MARKED AN IMPORTANT STEP IN THE EXPANSION OF FACILITIES FOR TOURISTS IN CAMBODIA AND IS PART OF A WIDER PROGRAMME OF HOTEL BUILDING AND TOURIST PROMOTION.

    THE FIRST FLIGHT TO TOUCH DOWN WAS BY AIR FRANCE AND TOURISTS WERE GREETED WITH FLOWERS PRESENTED BY LOCAL GIRLS.

    THE AIRPORT WAS ORIGINALLY CONSTRUCTED WITH AID FROM THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA.

    A 200 ROOM HOTEL NAMED "ANGKOR HOTEL" IS BEING CONSTRUCTED NEAR THE ANGKOR WAT RUINS AND WILL OPENED EARLY NEXT YEAR.
