Background: It's been a fortnight of change in Egypt -- now the Federal Republic of Egypt -- with the population voting in two referendums. It almost unanimously approved the constitutions for the newly-formed Arab Federation of Egypt, Libya and Syria, and a new "freedom" constitution for Egypt itself. But for President Sadat there were also the usual diplomatic ceremonies to be attended to -- and this film shows him at a traditional accreditation ceremony in Cairo on Thursday (September 9). He is shown accepting the credentials of the Canadian and Pakistani Ambassadors, just two of a number of Ambassadors who presented their papers to him on the same day.
SYNOPSIS: It's been two weeks of political change in Egypt -- now the Federal Republic of Egypt -- with the population voting for and accepting constitutions for the newly-formed Arab Federation AND for Egypt itself. But for President Sadat there were also the usual diplomatic ceremonies to be attended to -- and on Thursday he accepted the credentials of a number of foreign ambassadors. First to be presented were the papers of the Canadian Ambassador, who was there with senior members of his Embassy.
Outside on the political front, meanwhile Egyptians have almost unanimously approved a new permanent constitution for Egypt wh??? promises them full personal freedom in a socialist society.
Another of the diplomats to present credentials was the Pakistani Ambassador. PAUSE THREE SECONDS. Others included the Ambassadors of Ceylon and Indonesia.
Earlier this month the Egyptian electorate also voted their approval for the constitution of the newly-formed Arab Federation of Egypt, Libya and Syria. But while the Federation will present a united front on external affairs, and co-operate in such fields as military force, internal affairs in the three countries will remain autonomous.
