Background: SYNOPSIS: The rally is taking place in and around the Canadian city of Montreal. So far Ari Vatanen of Finland, driving a Ford Escort is leading over Bjorn Waldegaard of Sweden by seventeen seconds. Both men are driving for the Rothmans' Ford team. Today's (14 September) planned run to Quebec City was cancelled because of bad weather. But a circuit race was held - one which the Swede, Waldergaard won.
So far the Rothmans' Fords have been the fastest on every special stage of the rally. However it remains to be seen whether or not Vatanen and Waldegaard intend to race as teammates, or to challenge each other for the lead.
The drivers had intended to rest overnight in Montreal, and then set out for Quebec City on Friday, However, inclement weather has forced race officials to delay the start of that portion of the rally.
Canadian driving champion, Taisto Heinonen, an ex-patriot Finlander, was holding fourth place in his Toyota Celica However, after Friday's results (14 September), it appears he has dropped back into sixth place overall.
The rally, which counts for points in the World Championship, will conclude in Montreal on Sunday (16 September).
