  • Description

FIVE-MAN TEAMS FROM EUROPEAN COUNTRIES TOOK PART TODAY (SUNDAY) IN THE INTERNATIONAL MOTO-CROSS MEETING AT NAMUR, BELGIUM. TEAMS CAME FROM BRITAIN, SWEDEN, FRANCE, DENMARK, NETHERLANDS, BELGIUM AND SWITZERLAND.

AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS, THE MOST-FANCIED COUNTRIES COMPETING WERE BRITAIN, SWEDEN AND BELGIUM. THE LEADING RIDERS OF THOSE COUNTRIES, NAMELY, JEFF SMITH, ROLF TIBBLIN AND JOEL ROBERT WERE EXPECTED TO FIGURE CLOSELY IN THE FINISH. THE SKILL AND COURAGE OF THE SWEDES WAS EXPECTED TO GUARANTEE THEM A PLACE ON THE WINNERS' ROSTRUM -- IF JOEL ROBERT'S YOUNG AND LIVELY TEAM LET THEM GET AWAY AT THE RACE'S START.

FROM THE MOMENT THE COMPETITORS BEGAN THEIR 12 LAPS RIDE THE BATTLE WAS FIERCE. WITH SOFT CONDITIONS RIDERS COULD TAKE NO CHANCES AND THE RACE WAS NOT EASILY WON BY THE MAN WHO EVENTUALLY CROSSED THE LINE FIRST -- THE BELGIAN TEAM LEADER JOEL ROBERT. THE SPECTATORS WARMLY APPLAUDED THE HOST NATION'S WIN AGAINST THE BEST MOTO-CROSS COMPETITION IN THE WORLD.
