Background: A 57-year-old clergyman - the Reverend Claudius Henry - and twenty-four others were arrested in four recent swoops by police in Kingston. The Rev. Henry was placed on the first treason charge the British colony has known since 1865. The police announcement, Apr 11, said they discovered six home-made bombs, dynamite, shotguns, revolvers and other small arms. Also discovered were letters between Mr. Henry and Dr Fidel Castro, the Cuban Prime Minister.

Police say that the Rev. Henry is the leader of the religious "Rastafari" cult, who wear long matted hair and beards and believe that the marijuana drug is ordained by the Bible for man's use. Other members of the sect have been variously charged under the law's relation to treason, felony, firearms, and the possession of marijuana.

Mr. Henry's sect - the African Reformer Church - was set up about two years ago. He seeks the chance for Jamaican negroes to return to Africa, but a "Back to Africa" trek which he organized late last year ended in failure.

Last May some 30 people were arrested when the Rastafari cult rioted and caused injuries to police and civilians after one of the members had been knocked down by a policeman.
