"Finally, Mr. President, I want to underscore the intrinsic unity between the peoples of Latin America and the Peoples of Asia and Africa as members of the Third World. While the Latin American peoples naturally must consolidate co-operation and understanding among themselves first, it is vital that this co-operation be extended to other countries, particularly to their brothers in Asia and Africa, or who face similar problems. While this co-operation is not founded on antagonism to any other group of countries in the world, it has proved to be in the past of inestimable value. One has only to mention the common problems faced by the Third World in trade negotiations in UNCTAD or the current negotiations in the Committee on Peaceful Uses of the Sea-Bed and Ocean Floor beyond National Jurisdiction to realise how vital this unity is. My delegation is convinced that this Security Council meeting will serve to consolidate this unity between the peoples and governments of the Third World which in turn will enhance international peace and security."
