The Ivory Coast's Justice Minister M. Camille Alliali opened the Fifth West African Conference of Comparative Criminology in Abidjan on Monday (26 May).
The delegates -- who included senior judges -- form Senegal, Cameroon, Nigeria, Dahomey, Mali, Ghana, Upper Volta and Canada, gathered at the Institute of Criminology at the University of Abidjan for three days of lectures and seminars.
The conference was held under the auspices of the International Centre for Comparative Criminology of Montreal whose Director, Professor Denis Szabo, attended the Abidjan sessions.
The theme of the conference was "The Modern Penal code and the Survival of Traditional Penal Justice".
Delegates and speakers from all over the world discussed their experiences of the administration of justice in different countries in relation to the conference theme... especially its application in modern Africa.
