  • Description

Recent raids inside Zambia which the Zambian authorities have said were performed by Zimbabwe Rhodesian forces have led to hostility towards Britain. In Lusaka, President Kenneth Kaunda and his Foreign Secretary both bitterly criticised Britain, and angry demonstrators shouted protests and threw rocks at the British High Commission. President Kaunda said e could not accept that the British Government did not know in advance about the attacks against economic targets like roads and bridges inside Zambia. Zimbabwe Rhodesia has not explicitly accepted responsibility for the recent wave of raids. President Kaunda made his accusations at a rally in the grounds of States House in Lusaka.

SYNOPSIS: The crowd consisted mainly of you people form schools, technical colleges, and professional institutes in Lusaka. They pledged support for the government and they declared they would take up arms to defend the nation. President Kaunda told the crowd of about six thousand that Britain was using the raids on Zambia to pressure the Patriotic Front to make further concessions in the Lancaster House ceasefire negotiations. President kaunda has responded by rallying support for putting the armed forces on alert.
