  • Description

50 International military strategies from Iran, Pakistan, turkey, Great Britain and a United Stares Observer delegation were filmed by VISNEWS Jan 23 arriving at the old Sind Assembly, Karachi, for the Baghdad Pact Military Committee's three day session opening.

Generally fell to be the most important of the Baghdad Pact committees, the military committee reviewed plans for strengthening security and co-ordinating defence. Presided over by Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Sir William Dickson; it was expected to put before Baghdad Pact Ministerial Council (Opening Karachi Jan 26) a reoriented defence plan because of Iraq's defection. The establishment of a joint commander for the forces of Iran, Pakistan and Turkey was supported by Iran and Turkey but opposed by Pakistan.

Iraq, still officially a member nation of the Baghdad Pact, had not been provided with a seat at the Ministerial Council meeting. The Iraq flag was not flying outside the building. There is no intention, however, of formally expelling Iraq.

Jordan, another Pact member, was not represented at the military committee session.
