    Background: The President of the People's Republic of the Congo, President Marian N'gouabi arrived in Bucharest on Tuesday (July 10) for talks with President Nicolae Ceausescu of Rumania. The Congolese leader, who is on an East European tour, flew in from Budapest for a three day visit.

    During the visit, an economic co-operation agreement was concluded between the two countries. The agreement was signed by the Rumanian Deputy Prime Minister Ion Patan, and M. Justin Lekounzou, he Congolese Minister of Mines. No details of the accord were disclosed.

    Also, a solemn declaration, signed by President Ceausescu and President N'gouabi, said both countries were determined to expand economic co-operation, trade exchanges and closer collaboration in education, science and culture. The declaration also called for a strengthening of the United Nations' role in defending other countries' independence and sovereignty and in the consolidation of peace and security.
