    SOME 60,000 PEOPLE WATCHED THE RACE DURING WHICH ONE PERSON WAS KILLED AND THREE INJURED WHEN A LOTUS-CORTINA, DRIVEN BY JACK ICKX OF BELGIUM, LEFT THE TRACK AND SOMERSAULTED INTO THE CROWD. THE DRIVER SUFFERED MULTIPLE INJURIES BUT DOCTORS SAID HIS LIFE WAS NOT IN DANGER.

    THE FINAL RESULTS WERE: FIRST M. PARKES, BRITAIN, DRIVING A FERRARI WITH AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 124.2 MILES AN HOUR (200.2KMS); SECOND: J. GUICHET OF FRANCE, FERRARI; THIRD: L. BANDINI OF ITALY, FERRARI; FOURTH: PIPER OF BRITAIN, FERRARI; FIFTH BARTH OF GERMANY, PORSCHE; AND SIXTH: LANGLOIS OF BELGIUM, FERRARI.
