Final matches of the international tennis season at Sao Paulo were between Australian ace Margaret Hellyer and USA star Carol Faregos; who were fighting for the 3rd place. Miss Hellyer won by 2 sets to zero. Thus the australian representative obtained the 3rd place, and US' Carol Fageros was fourth.
Final match was between British champion Shirley Bloomer and brazilian ace tennist Maria Esther Bueno. The match was the closest ever played at Sao Paulo, it is said. Miss Bueno started off winning the first game, but Miss Bloomer reacted well and matched her opponent. Thus they went on very close, until finally Miss Bloomer won the first set. In the second set the story repeated itself. Miss Bueno won the first game, miss Bloomer the second so on. Finally, miss Bloomer managed to make 5 games to 4, and went to 40/30, then it was 40/40 again. They proceeded, gaining advantage and loosing it again for several times. Finally, Miss Bloomer gained advantage and kept it. Thus she won the second set, and the match, by 2 to Zero.
Heartily, applauded, Miss Bloomer was handed the silver cup, by Sao Paulo's PAULISTANO Athletic Club's president.
Miss Bloomer was then interviewed on TV, and spoke of her satisfaction to have been able to come to Brazil and to play for this generous audience.
