    THE JORDANIAN SECTOR OF JERUSALEM WAS CALM TODAY (MONDAY) WITH SECURITY PATROLS TOURING THE STREETS TO PREVENT ANY FURTHER OUTBREAKS OF THE RIOTING WHICH SWEPT THE CITY LAST WEEK. THE CURFEW WHICH WAS IMPOSED AFTER THE RIOTING WAS LIFTED YESTERDAY MORNING AND PEOPLE BEGAN TO RETURN TO THEIR NORMAL ACTIVITIES.

    SHOPS WERE OPENED YESTERDAY BUT SCHOOLS REMAINED CLOSED. TRAFFIC BETWEEN JERUSALEM AND OTHER MAJOR TOWNS WAS REPORTED TO BE RETURNING TO NORMAL.

    THE RIOTS WERE SPARKED OFF IN PROTEST AGAINST ISRAEL'S ATTACK ON JORDANIAN VILLAGES TWO WEEKS AGO. THE CROWDS SURGED THROUGH THE STREETS OF JERUSALEM'S JORDANIAN SECTOR DEMANDING THAT KING HUSSEIN GIVE PALESTINIAN REFUGEES ARMS AND A FREE HAND AGAINST ISRAEL.

    ELDERS FROM JERUSALEM AND OTHER TOWNS ARE MEETING IN JERUSALEM TODAY TO ORGANISE A DELEGATION TO MEET KING HUSSEIN. THE TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED WITH THE KING ARE NOT GIVEN BUT REUTER REPORTS THAT OBSERVERS BELIEVE THE RIOTING AND ITS CAUSES ARE CERTAIN TO BE DISCUSSED.
