    AN EXHIBITION AT WHICH MORE THAN 100 ARTISTS ARE REPRESENTED OPENS IN BRUSSELS TOMORROW (FRIDAY) TO MARK THE ERA OF PETER PAUL RUBENS, THE GREAT FLEMISH (BELGIAN) PAINTER. MOST OF THE PAINTINGS ARE ON LOAN FROM MANY COUNTRIES AND INCLUDE WORKS OF VAN DYCK AND JORDAENS AS WELL AS RUBENS.

    PETER PAUL RUBENS WAS BORN IN 1577 AND DIED IN 1640. ONE OF THE MOST PRODUCTIVE OF EUROPEANS PAINTERS AS WELL AS ONE OF THE GREATEST, HE IS KNOWN FOR HIS CONTROL OF COLOUR AND BRILLIANT MASTERY IN HANDLING OIL PAINT. DURING HIS LIFE, RUBENS WAS ALSO A DIPLOMAT. THE BELGIAN EXHIBITION OF HIS WORK IS THE BIGGEST IN HIS HOMELAND FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS.

    THE EXHIBITION, HELD IN THE BRUSSELS "MUSEE D'ART ANCIEN", WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR 50 DAYS. FAMOUS PAINTINGS WERE SENT FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD FOR THE EXHIBITION AND NUMBER 309 WORKS IN ALL. THE CATALOGUE LISTING THEM HAS 432 PAGES -- MORE THAN MOST MODERN NOVELS.
