    KING CONSTANTINE OF GREECE, AND OLYMPIC YACHTING GOLD MEDAL WINNER, PRESENTED THE PRIZES AFTER THE RACE WHICH WAS CONTESTED BY 31 RUNNERS FROM 12 COUNTRIES: BELGIUM, BULGARIA, CZECHOSLOVAKIA, EAST AND WEST GERMANY, FRANCE, HUNGARY, ITALY, RUMANIA, TURKEY, YUGOSLAVIA AND GREECE.

    THE INTERNATIONAL FILED COVERED THE SAME ROUTE AS THAT TAKEN BY THE YOUNG WARRIOR 2,500 YEARS AGO TO REACH ATHENS AND ANNOUNCE THE VICTORY OF ITS ARMY OVER THE BARBARIANS.

    NOBODY KNOWS THE TIME TAKEN BY THAT WARRIOR BUT BUSCH COVERED THE COURSE OF ABOUT 26-MILES (42 KMS) FROM THE MARATHON VILLAGE TO ATENS STADIUM IN TWO HOURS, TWENTY MINUTES AND 20 SECONDS.
