Background: All Lincolnshire cheered as the 'giant killers' Scunthorpe of England's Third Division turned out against Liverpool (near the top of Division Two) in the Football Association Cup- Britain's big annual soccer knock-out competition. Scunthorpe, who had already beaten mighty Newcastle (First Division) in this year's competition, soon sowed their supporters that it was no flash in the pan. In the first half of the game they gave their illustrious visitors plenty to think about. In the second half, however, a storm hit the ground, and a Liverpool storm hit Scunthorpe too. Yet, the home team's defence held out.... though their forwards frittered away scoring chances. It seemed rough justice for a gallant little team when Liverpool's A'Court swept the ball back for Murdock to score the only- and the winning- goal of the game.
