A Syrian airliner with five Arab guerrillas and their hostages on board landed in Kuwait early on Friday (7 September)... but it was not immediately clear whether they intended to go any further. The aircraft...had refuelled at Cairo, and flew over Syria after leaving Paris, where the guerrillas had occupied the Saudi Arabian Embassy for 17 hours. Only two Syrian air hostesses left the plane during the 45-minute stop-over in Cairo. That left the five Arabs. six hostages and 10 crew members still on board.
During the seige, the gunmen demanded the release of a goaled Palestinian guerrilla leader and a plane to fly them out of Paris. Later, five hostages were released - four were woman; the fifth, the Iraqi Ambassador in Paris.
They boarded a police bus, which sped them to Le Bourget Airport. Also in the motorcade were a police car and six Arab diplomatic vehicles.
At that stage... no-one had been killed but at least three people had been injured.
