    A woman blind since childhood, and her husband who can only just distinguish night from day, are the toast of the little. Dutch village of Hardinxveld-Giessendam, near Rotterdam, Holland. For the couple, Mr. and Mrs. T. Van Laar, have just celebrated their first year in business -- conducting a general store which provides customers with a house-to-house delivery service.

    The couple met and married while living in a home for the blind. They started in business last year with the help of the Dutch Government which provided the shop plus a social welfare grant of 4,000 guilders (about GBP400) to by stock. Mr. Van Laar makes his rounds to customers houses with a hand-pulled trolley, delivering groceries and tobacco.

    They are helped in the shop by their three-year-old sighted daughter, who gives valuable assistance in such tasks as identifying groceries received in bulk from wholesalers. In the shop, packets of groceries and cigarettes are arranged on shelves in an ingenious system that not from a variety of brands, but also makes it difficult for a callous person to cheat them. By memory and touch, they can pick, out immediately whatever a customer orders.
