Background: Mr. V. V. Giri, Governor of U.P. inaugurated the first Grain Ellevators in India at Hapur on 21st March, 1959.(Complete story attached). The Ellevator has been built by the Technical Cooperation Mission to India. The Minister of Food and Agriculture Mr. A.P.Jain, and the American Ambassador to India Mr. Bunker were also present on the occasion. It was a simple ceremony and after the speeches, Mr. Giri pressed a button which put into operation the ellevator. The storage capacity of the grain ellevator is 15,000 tons.
