    The Thames Estuary Inshore Fishing Fleet Race was held near Southend on the south coast of England on Saturday (7 August). More than 40 fishing boats from the south coast area took part in the annual race. Each class started separately on the 15.5 mile zigzag course around four marking boys.

    A large ground of onlookers stood along the Southend Pier. The starting and finishing point for the trawlers. The vessel Allison Theresa, from Harwich, took overall honours.

    SYNOPSIS: Once a year the fishermen along the South Coast of England meet to test their trawlers and piloting abilities in the Thames Estuary Inshore Fishing Fleet Race.

    More than forty boats were entered in Saturday's ??? near Southend. Each boat was out into one of several classes. Each class started separately. Times were kept to declare an overall winner. Starting at Southend Pier, the boats set out on a fifteen and a half mile course. Four marker buoys had to be rounded, before crossing the finish line back at the pier. The longest leg of the race was just over six miles.

    A large crowd of supporters stood along Southend Pier to cheer on their favourites, as the boats headed down the final leg. The overall winner was a Drawler Harwich, the Allison ???.
