    The United States of America and the Soviet Union adjourned their Strategic Arms Limitations Talks (SALT) in Geneva on Thursday (21 December) until February 27 after setting up a commission to supervise accords reached in Moscow last May.

    A joint communique on the opening round of the second phase of their negotiations, which began in Geneva on November 21, maid: "The discussion was useful for both sides in preparing for further negotiations next year."
    The second SALT talks are aimed at providing a comprehensive treaty curbing offensive strategic weapons, and limiting the attacking nuclear arsenals of the two powers.

    The United States representative Mr. Gerard Smith, spoke about the talks.
