    ONE GROUP OF GHANAIANS WAVED PLACARDS PROTESTING AGAINST PRESIDENT NKRUMAH'S RULE WHILE RHODESIAN DEMONSTRATORS ATTACKED THE COUNTRY'S HANGING LAWS.

    RHODESIA WAS THE PRINCIPAL SUBJECT OF TODAY'S MEETING, WITH STATEMENTS BY THE REPRESENTATIVES OF OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES.ZAMBIA CALLED ON BRITAIN TO IMPOSE A "NEW DEMOCRATIC CONSTITUTION IN RHODESIA" - IF NECESSARY, BY FORCE.

    PRESIDENT KAUNDA, ACCORDING TO A ZAMBIA SPOKESMAN, MADE THIS DEMAND TOGETHER WITH A CALL FOR A CONSTITUTIONAL CONFERENCE WHICH MR.JOSHUA NKOMO AND OTHER DETAINED AFRICAN NATIONALIST LEADERS SHOULD BE FREE TO ATTEND.IF MR.IAN SMITH, THE RHODESIAN PRIME MINISTER, REFUSED TO ATTEND OR RELEASE THE AFRICAN LEADERS, BRITAIN SHOULD BE OBLIGED TO USE FORCE, DR.KAUNDA WAS QUOTED AS SAYING.

    THE KENYAN FOREIGN MINISTER, MR.MURUMBE, IS SAID TO HAVE WARNED THAT THE ORGANISATION OF AFRICAN STATES WOULD NOT REMAIN PASSIVE IF MR.SMITH DECLARES INDEPENDENCE UNILATERALLY.THE COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY, MR.BOTTOMLEY, OUTLINED THE POLICY OF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT AND DISCUSSED THE PRESENT NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN BRITAIN AND THE RHODESIAN GOVERNMENT.

    MR.WILSON WAS BELIEVED TO BE UNDER PRESSURE FROM COMMONWEALTH PRIME MINSTERS AT TODAY'S MEETING TO STEP DOWN FROM THE LEADERSHIP OF THE VIETNAM PEACE MISSION BECAUSE OF HIS SUPPORT FOR THE AMERICAN VIEWPOINT.IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT MR.LESTER PEARSON, THE CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER, COULD TAKE OVER THE VACANCY SHOULD MR.WILSON DECIDE AGAINST VISITING PEKING, WASHINGTON, HANOI AND SAIGON.
