    A GLITTERING BANQUET IN THE PETERSBURG HOTEL LAST NIGHT (WEDNESDAY) ENDED THE SECOND DAY OF QUEEN ELIZABETH'S TOUR OF WEST GERMANY. AT THE DINNER, THE QUEEN, AND HER HUSBAND, THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH, WERE THE HOSTS. IT WAS THE ROYAL GESTURE OF GRATITUDE IN RESPONSE TO THE LAVISH ATTENTION AND HOSPITALITY THE ROYAL COUPLE HAVE RECEIVED SINCE THEIR ARRIVAL IN BONN.

    FOR THE DINNER, THE QUEEN WORE A GOWN OF WHITE CHANTILLY LACE, RE-EMBROIDERED WITH MOTHER OF PEARL, SHIMMERING STONES AND DIAMANTE. SHE ALSO WORE A SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND TIARA, WHICH MATCHED HER NECKLACE AND EARRINGS. SHE WORE THE SPECIAL GRAND CROSS WITH STAR OF THE FEDERAL ORDER OF MERIT, WHICH WAS PRESENTED TO HER BY THE LATE PRESIDENT HEUSS ON HIS STATE VISIT TO BRITAIN IN 1958.

    THERE WERE 86 PEOPLE AT THE DINNER, AND 500 ATTENDED THE RECEPTION THAT FOLLOWED TI. AFTERWARDS THE QUEEN AND HER GUESTS WATCHED A DISPLAY OF FIREWORKS ON THE RHINE.
