• Short Summary

The U. S. Marines in Vietnam have a new man detector device they are using?

  • Description

The U. S. Marines in Vietnam have a new man detector device they are using to locate hidden Viet Cong. Believe it or not, this unique instrument "smells" out the enemy.

The "smeller is being used mainly in villages where the Viet Cong are known to have numerous escape tunnels, spider holes and caves for escape and evasion.

The "smeller" device looks somewhat like a cross between a flame thrower and an M-79 grenade launcher.

The operator has only to point the device in a general direction, and when the instrument "smell" the enemy, the operator hears a "bleep" in his headset. As he moves closer the Viet Cong hide-out the "bleep" grows louder and the enemy is located.
