  • Description

TWO NEW AMBASSADORS HANDED OVER THEIR CREDENTIALS TO THE CHAIRMAN OF GHANA'S RULING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL (N.L.C.) ON MONDAY (30 JUNE). THEY WERE THE AUSTRIAN AMBASSADOR, DR. ALEXANDER OTTO, AND THE JAPANESE AMBASSADOR, MR. SABURO KIMOTO. ALSO PRESENT AT THE CEREMONIES WERE THE DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF THE N.L.C. MR. HARLLEY AND THE COMMISSIONER FOR EXTERNAL AFFAIRS, MR. ANIN.

THE FIRST TO PRESENT HIS CREDENTIALS WAS DR. OTTO, WHO SAID THAT AUSTRIA WAS FOLLOWING WITH GREAT INTEREST THE POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT OF GHANA. HE ADDED THAT THE COUNTRY WAS BECOMING AN EXAMPLE FOR MANY OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES BY THE IMPRESSIVE FEAT OF A SMOOTH CHANGE IN THE FORM OF GOVERNMENT.

REPLYING, BRIGADIER AFRIFA TOLD THE AMBASSADOR THAT HE HAD COME TO THE COUNTRY AT A TIME WHEN GHANAIANS WERE ENGAGED IN AN EXERCISE OF NATION-BUILDING THROUGH DEMOCRATIC PROGRESS.

THE NEXT TO PRESENT HIS CREDENTIALS WAS THE JAPANESE AMBASSADOR, MR. KIMOTO. HE SAID HE WAS CONFIDENT THAT THE GHANAIANS WOULD ACHIEVE A SMOOTH TRANSFER TO CIVILIAN RULE. IT WAS GRATIFYING, HE ADDED, TO RECOGNISE THAT THE UNDERSTANDING AND CO-OPERATION BETWEEN JAPAN AND GHANA WAS INCREASING EACH YEAR.

BRIGADIER AFRIFA ALSO EXPRESSED PLEASURE AT THE CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES.
