Greek Premier Constantine Karamanlis said in Salonika on Sunday that the turkish invasion of Cyprus created a permanent threat to peace in that part of the world.

Mr. Karamanlis, addressing a huge crowd of nearly 45,000 at the opening of his campaign in the Greek elections, declared that "threat will not disappear, nor will Greek-Turkish friendship be restored, until Turkey sees the light of reason and restores the rule of justice and right in Cyprus."
The Premier pledged to restore democracy in greece and said that the elections on 17 November will be decisive for the country's political future.

Sixty-seven-year-old Mr. Karamanlis was recalled from 11 years of self-imposed exile abroad last July to form a civilian Cabinet when the military Junta relinquished power in the wake of the Cyprus invasion.

Observers say he is the most likely leader to secure an absolute majority in the 300-seat Parliament and to form a new post-election Government.
