Background: Kenyan athletes turned in several Olympic qualifying times in the annual Kenya athletic championships at Mombasa's municipal stadium on Saturday (22 May).
More than thirty Kenyans have already qualified for the Montreal Olympics next July.
The highlight of the championships was the 10,000 metres run by army private Joel Cheriyout who clocked a dazzling 28 minutes 10.6 seconds, his second best time ever.
Kenya is traditionally the strongest country, in Africa in athletic competition and, with the weekend's good performances, is expected to take several gold medals at the Montreal Olympics.
