The Rhodesian Prime Minister, Mr. Ian Smith says he doesn't like parts of t he Anglo-American proposals for a settlement of the Rhodesian problem and a transition to black majority rule. The plan was put to him by British Foreign Minister, Dr. David Owen and the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Andrew Young in Salisbury on Thursday (1 September) at a meeting which lasted three hours. Mr. Smith has not ruled out the seven major proposals completely. He's announced a special committee to study them and their implications. Meanwhile though, Mr. Smith made it clear t he following day (Friday, 2 September), that two of the proposals, at least, we "crazy suggestions".
SYNOPSIS: The two proposals are that he stand down from office and that part of the Rhodesian armed forces be disbanded during transition to majority rule.
