  • Description

AND NOW, FILM OF AQUATIC EVENTS IN SYDNEY: SYDNEY HARBOUR WAS BEJEWELLED WITH SAIL FOR THE ANNUAL REGATTA OF THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY. THE FLAGSHIP FOR THE RACES WAS THE ANTI-SUBMARINE FRIGATE, PARRAMATTA.

MORE THAN 600 BOATS TOOK PART IN THE REGATTA, RANGING IN SIZE FROM THE OCEAN RACERS TO TINY MOTHE. THE MAIN RACE WAS TO FORT MACKING AND RETURN. A RELATIVELY NEW ARRIVAL IN SYDNEY SAILING - THE YACHTING WORLD KEELBOATS - WERE WELL IN EVIDENCE IN THE REGATTA.

THERE WAS A RACE STARTED EVERY FIVE MINUTES, SO SPECTATORS HAD PLENTY TO SEE, WITH BRIGHT SPINNAKERS ADDING COLOUR.

A GOOD BREEZE PROVED TOO STRONG FOR SOME; BUT SAILING CONDITIONS WERE ALMOST PERFECT, AND THE RACES WENT OFF WITHOUT MISHAP.
