    AUSTRALIA'S NEW EMBASSY IN DJAKARTA WAS OPENED BY ITS MINISTER FOR EXTERNAL AFFAIRS, MR. PAUL HASLUCK YESTERDAY (THURSDAY). THE FIVE-STOREY EMBASSY IS SITUATED IN A BUSY THOROUGHFARE WHICH IS KNOW AS PRESIDENT SUKARNO'S PRESTIGE AREA.

    AMBASSADOR MAXWELL LOVEDAY, INTRODUCED THE 300 GUESTS TO MR. AND MRS. PAUL HASLUCK. THEY INCLUDED RELIGIOUS LEADERS, MEMBERS OF THE INDONESIAN CABINET AND ARMED FORCES CHIEFS AND MEMBERS OF THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS.

    WORK ON THE EMBASSY STARTED IN 1963 -- THE YEAR PRESIDENT SUKARNO LAUNCHED CONFRONTATION AGAINST MALAYSIA. AUSTRALIA'S SUPPORT FOR MALAYSIA SAW A SLIGHT STRAIN IN DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH INDONESIA.

    IN HIS SPEECH, MR. HASLUCK SAID HE WAS PROUD TO BE ABLE TO CELEBRATE AUSTRALIA DAY IN INDONESIA AND THANKED THE INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW EMBASSY.

    CONTINUING, HE SAID THE INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT WAS FACING MANY DIFFICULTIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION AND ADDED THAT HE WAS CONFIDENT THAT THE COUNTRY WOULD ATTAIN HER GOALS BY LEARNING FROM HER PAST EXPERIENCE.

    THE INDONESIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. ADAM MALIK SAID COOPERATION AND STRENGTHENING OF RELATIONS BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND INDONESIA GUARANTEED SECURITY AND PEACE IN THE PACIFIC REGION.

    LATER, THE HOISTING OF THE AUSTRALIAN FLAG WAS WITNESSED BY THE GUESTS. MR. HASLUCK WAS FLUNKED BY MR. MALIK AND THE INDONESIAN MINISTER FOR ECONOMIC AFFAIRS, SULTAN HAMENGKU BUWONO.
