  • Description

The Dutch and British Prime Ministers met for discussions on the evolution of the EEC and Angola in London on Monday (16 February).

Doctor Joop Ben Uyl and Mr. Harold Wilson also discussed the world economic situation, with particular reference to inflation and unemployment, direct elections to the nine-nation European Commission, the forthcoming Law of the Sea conference and energy questions. British officials described the one hour ninety minute talk as "very friendly".

Britain and Holland, and the seen other community governments have been in close contact on the Angola problem and they have discussed the possible recognition of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) as the Government of the former Portuguese territory.

The talks between Mr. Wilson and Doctor Uyl were part of a series of meetings which Mr. Wilson holds periodically with the leaders of the other common market countries.

The two leaders also discussed the Belgium Prime Minister, Leo Tindeman's recent report on the development of the Common Market. Both Britain and Holland are against any two tier system within the European Community, as suggested by the report.
