    TWO NEW PATROL BOATS OF THE ROYAL MALAYAN NAVY WERE COMMISSIONED AT A BRIEF CEREMONY LAST WEDNESDAY AT A SHIPYARD SOUTH OF SINGAPORE.

    THE PATROL BOATS, THE 'SRI KEDAH' AND 'SRI SELANGOR', WERE THE FIRST OF SIX NEWS BOATS ORDERED BY THE ROYAL MALAYAN NAVY FROM VOSPER LIMITED, THE BRITISH SHIP BUILDERS. ANOTHER FOUR PATROL BOATS, OF SIMILAR DESIGN, WILL BE DELIVERED TO THE MALAYAN GOVERNMENT NEXT YEAR.

    THE BOATS ARE FULLY AIR-CONDITIONED AND HAVE A CRUISING RANGE OF 1,500 NAUTICAL MILES. THEY ARE FAST VESSELS, CAPABLE OF TWENTY-SEVEN KNOTS. THEY HAVE BEEN SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR MALAYAN WATERS.

    THEIR ARMAMENT CONSISTS OF THE LATEST 40 MM BOFORS. EACH BOAT IS FITTED WITH RADAR AND THERE IS ACCOMMODATION FOR THREE OFFICERS, THREE PETTY OFFICERS AND 16 RATINGS.
