PRESENT FOR THE CELEBRATION WAS THE CONGOLESE PRIME MINISTER CYRIL ADOULA AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE "REVOLUTIONARY GOVERNMENT IN EXILE", DR. ROBERTO HOLDEN.

    ALSO PRESENT WERE CONGOLESE GOVERNMENT MINISTERS AND VISITORS FROM OTHER AFRICAN STATES.

    (THE ANGOLA UPRISING BEGAN ON MARCH 15, 1961, IN THE TERRITORY'S NORTHERN DISTRICTS. ANGOLA IS PORTUGAL'S LARGEST OVERSEAS PROVINCE, EMBRACING ALMOST HALF A MILLION SQUARE MILES, AND ALSO HER RICHEST. WITHIN ITS BORDERS ARE AROUND 5-MILLION AFRICANS AND 200,000 EUROPEANS. IN THE FIRST WEEKS OF THE REBELLION MORE THAN 2,000 WHITES WERE KILLED. IN REPLY, THE PORTUGUESE GOVERNMENT TOOK SWIFT RETRIBUTION. TOTAL CASUALTIES ARE NOT KNOWN, BUT THE NUMBER OF AFRICAN REFUGEES WHO FLED IN THE DIRECTION OF THE CONGOLESE BORDER WERE SAID TO BE IN THE VICINITY OF 200,000).
