    Three Japanese judo experts -- one of them a world champion -- presented a judo display and a public training session of Ghanaian policemen and soldiers at the Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday (February 27). The Japanese experts are on an African tour.

    Judo -- derived from ancient Japanese Ju-jitsu -- was invented in Japan but its popularity has spread rapidly throughout the world in the last twenty years. In Japan it is an essential part of the educational system.

    Before the exhibition, one of the experts presented a kimono to the Ghanaian Director of Sports, Mr. Imoru Lafia, and said that his party was delighted with the interest the Ghanaian people showed in judo. He expressed his belief that the excellent physique of the Ghanaians would one day make them champions at the sport.

    The display was watched by the Director of Sports, Mr. Lafia, Mr. Joe Larty of the Sports council and the Japanese ambassador.
