TRANSCRIPT: INTERVIEWER: "IS IT KNOWN HOW SHE DIED?"

DR. CELLORIA: "NO IT ISN'T. PROBABLY OF ANY OF THE CHILDISH INFECTIONS THAT COULD HAPPEN TO A GIRL OF HER AGE."

INTERVIEWER: "YES. WAS THERE ANY JEWELLERY -- A WEDDING RING EVEN?"

DR. CELLORIA: "NO. THERE WASN'T ANY JEWELLERY. THEY MAY FIND SOMETHING YET, BUT I DON'T WANT TO RAISE YOUR HOPES. OF COURSE, YOU KNOW, WE PICKED TODAY FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT BECAUSE IT'S HER WEDDING ANNIVERSARY."

INTERVIEWER: "WHAT A MARVELLOUS COINCIDENCE. OR PERHAPS IT WASN'T QUITE SUCH A COINCIDENCE. IT IS ESTABLISHED OF COURSE THAT IT WAS POOR LITTLE ANNE MOWBRAY WITHOUT DOUBT?"

DR. CELLORIA: "WE'RE VERY SURE BECAUSE THE BODY HAD NOT BEEN DISTURBED OR THE COFFIN HADN'T BEEN ADDED TO AND --"

INTERVIEWER: "SHE WAS FIRST BURIED IN WESTMINSTER ABBEY. HOW DID SHE COME TO BE FOUND IN STEPNEY?"

DR. CELLORIA: "THEY HAD TO DO SOME ALTERATIONS IN THE ABBEY AND MOVED HER TO STEPNEY WHERE HER FAMILY HAD VERY STRONG ASSOCIATIONS WITH THE ABBE DE MINORESSES."

Background: JOURNALISTS AND NEWS CAMERAMEN CROWDED INTO A SMALL ROOM AT THE LONDON MUSEUM TODAY (THURSDAY) TO VIEW THE REMAINS AND SMALL LEADEN COFFIN OF A CHILD-BRIDE WHO DIED NEARLY 500 YEARS AGO. SHE WAS THE INFANT DUCHESS ANNE OF MOWBRAY, WHOSE TOMB WAS UNCOVERED ON A LONDON BUILDING SITE ON THE 11TH OF LAST MONTH.

ANNE MOWBRAY, DAUGHTER OF THE DUKE OF NORFOLK AND ONE OF THE RICHEST HEIRESSES IN ENGLAND, WAS MARRIED ON THE 15TH OF JANUARY, 1478 - EXACTLY 487 YEARS AGO - TO PRINCE RICHARD, DUKE OF YORK AND SON OF KING EDWARD IV. ANNE WAS FIVE YEARS OLD, AND RICHARD AGED 4 1/2.

THE MARRIAGE WAS NEGOTIATED BY THE AVARICIOUS KING, WANTING HIS SON TO MARRY INTO THE WEALTHY NORFOLK FAMILY. BUT THE MARRIAGE WAS SHORT LIVED. PRINCE RICHARD WAS ONE OF THE THREE INFANT ROYAL PRINCES WHO WERE MURDERED IN THE TOWER OF LONDON FOUR YEARS LATER, ALLEGEDLY ON THE ORDER OF THEIR UNCLE WHO LATER BECAME KING RICHARD III.

ANNE LIVED TO BE NINE YEARS OLD, AND WAS BURIED IN LONDON'S WESTMINSTER ABBEY IN 1481. HER REMAINS WERE LATER REMOVED, WHEN PART OF THE ABBEY WAS REBUILT BY KING HENRY VII. THEY WERE REDISCOVERED FOUR WEEKS AGO INSIDE A SEALED VAULT, II FEET UNDERGROUND, BY WORKMEN ON A BUILDING SITE IN STEPNEY, JUST OUTSIDE THE CITY OF LONDON.

THE SMALL LEADEN COFFIN WAS REMOVED TO THE LONDON MUSEUM AND OPENED. ANNE'S NAME AND HISTORY WAS INSCRIBED ON THE COFFIN IN LATIN, BUT THE INSCRIPTION WAS OBSCURED AND PARTLY DAMAGED AND COULD BE DECIPHERED ONLY AFTER CAREFUL TREATMENT IN THE MUSEUM'S LABORATORIES.

AT THE LONDON MUSEUM TODAY, THE ARCHAEOLOGIST FIELD OFFICER IN CHARGE, DOCTOR FRANCIS CELLORIA, WAS INTERVIEWED....
IT'S PLANNED TO REBURY THE REMAINS OF ANNE MOWBRAY IN WESTMINSTER ABBEY. HOWEVER, THERE'S EXPECTED TO BE SIX MONTHS OF RESEARCH DONE ON THE REMAINS AND THE RESULTS PUBLISHED IN AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL JOURNAL. THE BONES WILL BE EXAMINED BY RADIOLOGISTS, ANATOMISTS, OSTEOLOGISTS -- AND EVEN DENTAL EXPERTS.
