    A seven-man West German mission exploring possibilities of aid to Uganda, met with Mr. Fabian Okware, the Agricultural Minister, in Uganda on Tuesday (27 June). The delegation's visit to Uganda follows President Idi Amin's unofficial visit to West Germany four months ago.

    The talks with the Agriculture Minister reportedly centred primarily on coffee, Uganda's major earner of foreign exchange. It's said that 60 per cent of Uganda's economy is based on the crop.

    The leader of the delegation, an official of West Germany's Ministry of Economic Co-operation, reportedly promised that his country would try to assist Uganda in an getting a bigger world quota for its coffee. At the moment, Uganda faces the problem of unloading a surplus of coffee for which there's no buyer.

    The delegation's leader also stated that West German experts would be coming to Uganda in future to make a thorough study of the country's agriculture.

    On Monday (28 June) the delegation met Mr. Emmanuel Wakhewa, Uganda's Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The discussions were reported to have covered Uganda's current development, planning and suitable areas for West German technical assistance.

    SYNOPSIS: Kampala's Farmers House was the scene on Tuesday for a meeting between a seven-man West German mission and Ugandan Agriculture Minister, Mr. Fabian Okware. The delegation is led by an official of West Germany's Ministry of Economic Co-operation. And their visit to Uganda follows President Idi Amin unofficial visit to West Germany four months ago. The mission is in Uganda to explore possibilities of aid to the East African nation.
