  • Description

At the Port of Albany, just South of the New York State capital, officials of the Grange-League federation are still trying to estimate the damage in yesterday's devastating explosion and fire. The eight story building owned by the farmer's organization had been built at a cost of one million dollars back in 1933. This morning its a complete loss. Plant manager Fred Marks says he believes the explosion at the flour mill was touched off by a spark that ignited grain dust. Flames, which were quickly brought under control. spread through large open spaces of the mill in a chain reaction. The blast occurred as the day crew was leaving the building. 23 of the 50 workmen there were injured --but apparently No one was killed. Every available ambulance in Albany, New York was called to the scene. The explosion tore up sections of the flour mill's concrete floor and blasted windows out of their frames... A million dollars or more up in smoke at the G-L-F in the Port of Albany, New York.
