    DANILO DOLCI HAS BECOME INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN FOR HIS CAMPAIGN IN SICILY AGAINST THE MAFIA, THE CRIMINAL ORGANISATION, AND IS REGARDED IN SOME QUARTERS AS A CONTENDER FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.

    ON THEIR 375 MILE (600 KMS) MARCH FROM MILAN, DOLCI AND THE OTHER DEMONSTRATORS SLEPT WHEREVER THEY COULD FIND SHELTER ALONG THE WAY AND CONDUCTED OPEN-AIR DEBATES ON VIETNAM AND OTHER QUESTIONS.

    THE 42-YEAR-OLD DOLCI SAID: "I AM VERY HAPPY WITH WHAT WE HAVE DONE. IT STARTED OUT AS A MARCH AND ENDED UP AS BIG SEMINAR ON THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS. THE PEOPLE WELCOMED US ALL ALONG THE WAY".

    REACHING ROME, ABOUT 200 DEMONSTRATORS, CHANTING SLOGANS AND BRANDISHING NORTH VIETNAMESE FLAGS AND ANTI-AMERICAN PLACARDS, MARCHED INTO PARLIAMENT SQUARE. SIGNOR DOLCI HANDED IN A PETITION.

    THIS CALLED FOR A HALT TO U.S. BOMBING IN VIETNAM, RECOGNITION OF THE VIET CONG NATIONAL LIBERATION FRONT AS THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SOUTH VIETNAMESE PEOPLE, A BAN ON MILITARY ALLIANCES AND THE CONDEMNATION OF THE GREEK MILITARY REGIME.
